Section 1: Defining the Field

1.  IDT is a system of planning, implementing, and evaluating for instruction.  IDT is a way for teachers to be more effective. The success of the program can be measured and involves continuous revisions to suit the learner.  It is used in military training, developing countries, and schools.

      2.   Dick, Carey and Carey’s model of instructional design follow the six characteristics of instructional design mentioned in the text.  Their model allows for the instruction to be revised in every step.  The model is meant to work as a system and not just an accumulation of parts.  It involves all parts of the instructional process from the teacher, text, context, and learner.

      3. Technology can be used to effectively aid in instruction if the teacher is trained and knowledgeable in using it.  Because technology is rapidly changing, it is challenging for teachers to keep up with the newest developing techniques.  Students have shown great interest and adaptability in my observations while teaching.  In the school where I most recently taught, some teachers integrated technology throughout all subject areas.  The students benefited from not only learning how to using different types of technology but learning the subject area at the same time, while collaborating with other students around the world.  In contrast, some teachers used very basic technology, limiting their students learning experience.  I see technology continuing to evolve and become more influential in the classroom.  And the use of blogs, wikis, and e-learning platforms to be used for almost every class.  These are great ways for learners and teachers to collaborate and be more efficient.
